The Higher College of Technology (HCT) inOman, in collaboration with Microsoft, has announced the launch of Microsoft Live@Edu system during a ceremony at the HCT premises. With the launch of Microsoft Live@Edu, free email services and collaboration tools will be provided to more than 10,000 students.
Microsoft Live@Edu is a rich communication and collaboration platform which, in addition to the messaging capabilities, offers a host of online services which include SkyDrive, providing 25 GB of online file storage and Microsoft Office Web Apps 2010.
In addition, Microsoft Live@Edu will also enable email synchronisation allowing students to use their favourite email programmes, an integrated calendar, which includes group calendaring functions, and blogging tools as well as share and work with Microsoft documents through the web.
“ICT is now playing a very important role in supporting education and transforming students from consumers to active participants,” said Dr Said Omar al Mashiki, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, HCT.
“We would also like to express our gratitude to Microsoft for the constant support it offers to the students of Oman and the overall education sector. At HCT, we are committed to integrating the most advanced technology in order to create the best learning environment for our students. Through the adoption of solutions such as Microsoft Live@Edu, we are positive that we will have a strong platform to help our students and prepare them for the future by giving them the necessary ICT skills.”
During the launch ceremony, Wahab Salim al Hussini, ETC system administrator, demonstrated the features of Microsoft Live@Edu in the educational process. Microsoft Live@edu provides collaboration and productivity services that improve communication amongst the students and with teachers. Given that students are coming to schools more technologically savvy than before, they expect their school environments to have rich, high-quality communications capabilities like those available to them in non-academic settings. Live@edu thus provides them with a free yet familiar email, document management, online storage, and sharing services at the tip of their fingertips.
