The Centre for Special Education (CSE) at the Pakistan School Muscat (PSM) has been inaugurated in the presence of top officials from the Ministry of Education and other guests.
Fatma Abdul Abbas Noorani, Director-General of Private Schools, Ministry of Education, was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony. PSM pledged the establishment of a Centre for Special Education on March 18, 2010 when the SAI Group had conducted a seminar on Autism Spectrum Disorders at the school.
The project was initiated by the previous Board of Directors, spearheaded by the ex-chairman, Shabbir Ahmed Nadeem. The centre has been established keeping in mind the needs of differently-abled children and their requirements. It has a dedicated team working under the guidance of Principal of PSM, M Zakariya Babur. It is led by co-coordinator John Tariq, a senior teacher who will be assisted by Special Educator Saima Altaf. Other teachers will also volunteer by serving at the centre in their free time. There are also plans to induct another special educator into the team.
The centre also plans to expand the current space to include more facilities, which include an exclusive audio room to aid the hearing impaired. It also hopes that with the support of the ministry, the Special Education Department, volunteers, parents and senior students, the centre will be able to fulfil all its objectives.
