Dubai: Is there any way to find out your personal belongings such as mobile phone, camera, laptop and keys, if you lost it? A Dubai-based university's research team has developed a mobile platform to relocate the missed belongings.
A team from University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has developed a mobile-based software to find out the lost belongings by making use of radio frequency identification(RFID) and near field communication(NFC) technologies. They named this as "ipurse".
The new mobile platform was developed by Dr. Mohamed Wafta, Asst. Professor in UOWD's department of computer science and engineering. Two students Rashida Dharuwala and Manprabhjot Kaur also helped him in his research endeavour. The project has already received interest from International companies that are keen finding ways to commercialize the invention. The project is now waiting for a patent recognition.
The invention was initiated from a real need of the campus students. The research students Kaur and Daruwala has experienced the woes of many students of the campus who used to miss their mobile phones, perfume bottles and other personal belongings beyond retrieval. They experimented with many systems before finding an easy and permanent answer with RFID and NFC.
