Qatar Airways go for 100 scholarships this year

Qatar Airways has announced it is tripling to more than 100 the number of scholarships available for Qatari students during the 2012-13 academic year.

The carrier currently offers 35 scholarships under its year-old Qatar Airways National Scholarship Programme (QRNSP). Speaking at the opening of the Qatar Career Fair for UK-based Qatari students in London, Airline chief executive officer Akbar al-Baker, said the scholarships offer more people the chance to develop a long-term career with the airline.

“I am delighted to announce today that we are now tripling our scholarship numbers to more than 100 seats for the next academic year, demonstrating the level of deep commitment we at Qatar Airways have towards our future employees. We will continue to be on the lookout for young Qatari talent and nurture them to become future aviation professionals,” Al Baker, said Qatar Airways CEO, said.

The shift comes after the original 35 places offered on the programme this year proved to be in high demand and filled quickly. He continued to say that increasing the number of scholarships on offer is in line with Qatar’s National Vision 2030 to provide a solid education and career path for young Qataris.
Once people have earned a place on the scholarship programme, there are 19 different disciplines they can go into including working in human resources, product development, commercial, revenue management, information technology and corporate planning. The event also saw a number of students undergoing second round interviews for 2012-13 scholarships.

The airline has already launched flights to Tbilisi in Georgia this year and will launch flights to a further seven destinations, including Kigali in Rwanda, Zagreb in Croatia, Perth in Australia, Mombasa in Kenya, Zanzibar in Tanzania, Helsinki in Finland, and Gassim in Saudi Arabia this year.
