MUSCAT: After the Jasmine revolution, every Arabian country does not like to give unemployment a chance. Oman also wants to save its youth force from the jaw of uncertainties.
The education survey lately conducted by the Higher Education Minstry points out the disconnect between learning and job. So Dr. Hana Mohammed Amin, Advisor to the Higher Education Minister for Scientific Research and Studies, stressed on the importance of creating employable youngsters from the higher learning centres such as Colleges, Universities and Technical Institutes.Dr. Hana Mohammed Amin was speaking in Majlis Addawla's Education Committee the other day.
The survey has pointed out the backwardness of the females in the employment sector as most of the Omani jobseekers are women. At the same time, educated Omani youths are placed well in job. The social, economic and family reasons are the major factors behind the Joblessness of women.
The advisor emphasized on bridging the gap between between higher education and Omani labour market. "Until now we do not have the mechanism to connect the labour market and higher education institutions. The survey showed that while unemployed Oman graduates proliferating, more expatriates are being employed. The presence of the national manpower in the Omani labour market, especially in the private sector, is still below expectations."- Dr. Amin said.
Dr. Amin also pushed the cause of improving educational outputs and connecting learning with labour market to help find job for more Omani graduates. The survey also proved a point that science and technology graduates placed quickly on job while humanities graduates continue to be unemployed. The survey found that males constitute over 84 per cent of Omanised workforce while female count stay still in 15 per cent and that 80 per cent of the graduates work in jobs very relevant to their specialisations, which is greatly healthy and reposing.
