The two-day long Oman-India Education conference was concluded on Monday 23 January. The conference titled "Education, Empowerment and Excellence", in which many experts on education participated, was succefully conducted by The Ministry of Education in coordination with Indian School Ghubra (ISG).
The visiting Indian Minster of State for External Affairs and Human Resources Development E. Ahmed said, "Schools have to take upon themselves the responsibility of preparing to face the challenges of the future. There is a significant disconnect between the education system and the needs of the 21st century". And he hoped that schools will introduce models of education which play an important in the child's development.
Oman is an important partner of India in the Gulf and the two countries have strategic relationship in various areas- said Ahmed. The inaugural session of the conference on "Education, Empowerment and Excellence" was held under the auspices of Her Excellence Dr. Madiha Bint Ahmed Al Shibaniyah, Minister of Education, and HE Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, Minister of Manpower. The conference is also being organised to celebrate the 21st year of the establishment of the school.
"It is the schools' responsibility to transform individuals into leaders of tomorrow. Communities need to enter into learning conversations and to engage educators from around the world"- said Fatim Bint Abdul Abbas Noorani, Director General of Private Schools, MoE said.
Ahmed Rayees, President of the Indian School Al-Ghubra management committee, said that the conference was part of the efforts being made by the school to leave no stone unturned in its quest to empower its pupil to face the challenges posed by the world that is continuously evolving.
P. Mohammed Ali, founder of the Indian School Al Ghubra, said that the Sultanate, under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said was aiming to reach new vistas of excellence in education through various schemes. He said that in the 20 years, the school had evolved as one of the most preferred schools in Oman. – he added.
Addressing the conference The Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate, J.S. Mukul said the conference was an excellent platform for educationists from Oman and India to interact with each other, sharing their expertise and thoughts. "Globalisation presents unique challenges and modern education nurture excellence in academics and the all round development of students in a multicultural environment"- he added. A cultural programme was also presented by the students.
On Empowerment, eminent educationalists like Dr Malathi Somaiah from IIM Bangalore, Dr Sana Sabeel from the Ministry of Education, Sultanate of Oman and Dr Liz Jackson also spoke on the occasion.
Dr Badr al Kharusi, Deputy Director, National Career Counselling and Guidance, Dr Mariam al Nabhani, Deputy Director, TOSD, Redha bin Said bin Mohammed, Deputy Director General Planning and eminent people in the Ministry of Education, Sultanate of Oman were also participated.
The first day of the conference discussed about CBSE(Central Board of Secondary Education) curriculum, the efficiency of continuous assessment for supporting teaching and learning and higher education opportunities in India. Over 300 delegates from various schools under the wings of the Ministry of Education will attend this conference.
