And this program is wonderfully attracting many women from all over India. The major reason for this new program is attributed to the tendency of replacing the shortage of talent with women from business family. Another reason is the changing power balance in the family as more and more women prefer to come into the forefront of the society.
It is a fact that around 90 per cent of the wheels of the Indian economy lie in the hands of small and medium family businesses. In spite of these these businesses make an invaluable contribution to the economy, their growth is very limited due to lack of skilled labour. It is pointed out that the salary is a major constraint for the small and medium scale sector to hire competent talents. So they are forced to cope up with individuals of limited competencies and face talent shortages. Hence, there is a pressing need for women of the family to get involved with the business.
Another reason for women of the family enter into the family business is the confidentiality. As the family businesses are exposed to intense competition, they want to keep business strategy under wraps. In this scenario, if women of the family enter into the business will be welcomed. So they can hide their family business strategies from their competitors quite well.
But most of the women from the business family are green horns and mostly fail while dealing with the challenging situation. So women from the business families should learn intricacies of the business have become the most welcoming scenario. Here comes the relevance of lately introduced business management program exclusively for women from the stable of SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai.
Prof. Piramal Merchant says that he thinks of this program when he got an email from Deepa, wife of a first generation entrepreneur Rajesh Dadu. In her email she expresses her interest in studying business management to join strongly to the business empire her husband has founded.
Considering the demand of this family businessman’s wife, Prof. Piramal Merchant took the action to educate responsible women who can be appointed to senior positions in family businesses by virtue of their familial ties.
This program is to help women of family business to help and understand business concept with equal weightage on family and business issues. The current participants are from all over India and have wide and varied interests. The participants profile includes women who are thickly involved in business (either their own or family business) and those women also, who are thickly involved in household activities and are aspiring to join family business or even start their own. The women management program (WMP) is a monumental step in the direction of social service of giving education and imbibing confidence in women.
