UAE. A recent study has found that the Most preferable higher education programme in UAE is MBA. Students from the UAE region would like to choose business studies over Engineering or Medicine.
Prof. Badr Aboul-Ela, Director, Commission for Academic Accreditation, UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, said that the enrolment in basic science programmes are very negligible. He revealed this data during a discussion on higher education at the Education Forum organized by Dubai International Academic City (DIAC).
Prof. Raed Awamleh, Vice-Chancellor and Director, Middlesex University Dubai, Prof. Ghassan Aouad, President, University of Wollongong in Dubai, and Chadi Moujaes, Vice-president, Booz & Company also participated in the discussion. Francis Mathew, Editor-at-Large, Gulf News, was the moderator.
Prof. Ghassan Aouad said "The global higher education landscape is facing key challenges because of the economic downturn. But we can expect a shift in the current trend that works to the benefit of the UAE and the region".
Prof. Raed Awamleh said: "Higher education in UAE region is witnessing exciting times due to efforts to build human capital and attract talent from abroad for research and training. This trend is going to rise in the coming years".
Chadi Mousjaes, VP Booz & Company, said: "Higher education institutions in the UAE region is stepping-up their R&D and innovation activities. Education providers should link better ways with the industry to foster innovation". DIAC Education Forum is a bi-annual event that brings together delegates from key educational institutions and government departments, as well as representatives from leading universities, faculty members and private sector professionals.
