Ghedex begins: Don't miss Oman's Education fair

Muscat: Ghedex 2012, Oman's biggest higher education fair, was inaugurated by HE Dr. Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Sarmi, Undersecretary for higher education at the Ministry of Higher Education, on 23 April. Foreign universities all over the world are flocking in Oman to sell their educational programmes to Omani students who seek higher education admission. 

Several foreign universities including the University of Sydney are participating in the event for the first time. “We have over 400 undergraduate and post-graduate courses that begin in March and July,” Emmet O’Sullivan, regional manager, International Marketing and Student Recruitment at the University of Sydney told Oman Tribune on the sidelines of the inauguration. 

Several universities and colleges from countries like the UK, the US, Australia, UAE and others have already confirmed their participation at GHEDEX 2012.Kings College, London, AMIDEAST, New Castle University, UK, University College London, have already confirmed their participation. Australia's largest and most-multi-cultural university, Curtin University, is participating for the first time and will be the silver sponsor of the GHEDEX 2012. Waljat College of Applied Sciences, Oman is the Golden Sponsor of GHEDEX 2012. 

The leading higher education expo in Oman, GHEDEX 2012 (Gulf higher education exhibition), will be a real global platform this time as many iconic centres of higher education all over the world is ready to make a try here.GHEDEX education tradeshow is taking place at OITC (Oman International Trade & Exhibition) near International Airport, Muscat. Show will end by 25 April. Admission is free and show starts at every day 9.30 AM till evening. 


GHEDEX 2012 will provide incredible platform for Universities, colleges, educational centres and Edu Tech companies to showcase their programs and products. Oman is a destination with a vibrant young community who are looking across borders to get wired into globally reputed higher education opportunities. Many reputed technology and medical institutions from India also very aggressive this time to woo Omani students. The National Institutes of Technology (NITs), India's premier technology institution, is showcasing the admission opportunities in undergraduate engineering programmes in premier technical institutions in India. “The Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme is ideal for NRI students seeking admissions to any of the NITs in India,” Dr P Mohanan, Professor and former head of department of mechanical engineering and coordinator-foreign student affairs at the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka said. “In 2011, over 750 NRI students applied for various undergraduate programmes,” he said. The seat allotment will be based on SAT subject test and the choices given by the candidates. Candidates should have a minimum total score of 1,440 in SAT subject tests. 

“The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech), which will relocate to its new campus in Halban in mid August this year, will offer three new programmes at the new campus,” Prof. Dr Burkhard Rauhut, Rector of GUtech said. “We will offer these programmes, which are suited to the needs of the market,” he said. 





“Over 20 foreign universities from Poland, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Netherlands, Ireland and Russia are participating for the first time,” Muktar Mirza, project manager Ghedex, said.. The number of participants from the USA has increased this year, compared to last year- he added.

Second Pakistani University opens in UAE

Abasyn University RAS AL KHAIMAH, (UAE): One more Pakistani University has started its operations in Ras Al Khaimah with a mission to provide good quality affordable education for Pakistani families living in UAE. Name as “Abasyn University ”, the new educational platform will offer degree courses to the 800 to 1,000 pupils who comes out of Pakistani high schools in the UAE every year.
