Majlis A'Shura's Committee on Education and Scientific Research Hosts Higher Education Undersecretary

Muscat:Majlis A'Shura's Committee on Education and Scientific Research today held its fifth regular meeting of the third annual session (2013/2014) of the seventh term of the Majlis A'Shura, headed by Mohammad bin Rashid al-Qanobi, Head of the Committee.

The Committee hosted Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammad al-Sarmi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education to discuss a number of topics dealing with Omani students studying abroad and see at first-hand the efforts and actions undertaken by the Ministry in this regard and to review letters received by the Committee from some Omani students studying in the Republic of Poland and the solutions and proposals taken by the Ministry. Al- Qanobi confirmed that a meeting with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education came at the request of the parents of Omani students dispatched to the Republic of Poland and correspondence received by the Head and the members of the Committee by some of the students studying in the Republic of Poland, affecting the level of student achievement.

He added that the Committee contacted the ministry of Higher Education in the Sultanate. The meeting also discussed many topics dealing with the dispatched students in general and actions taken by the ministry in case of problems and difficulties facing students and solutions presented by the Ministry to handle such problems and avoiding them in the future.

For his part, Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammad al- Sarmi pointed out that the Government has a policy of diversifying the destinations of external scholarships and it aims through this to continue cultural and civilizational contacts between the Sultanate and the various States of the world to acquire science and knowledge from reliable sources, to develop the advanced scientific research in the interest of the country and its growth and development, adding that the Ministry, before taking any step of sending Omani students to any State, takes several steps, including visiting that country by an official delegation and then sending a technical team to evaluate education at universities, colleges and institutes that intend to send students to it.

He also said that the ministry in states in every country an officer who speaks Arabic, the country's language and English to directly communicate with all students in the countries where there is no Omani cultural attaches, such as Poland and other countries. On the subject of students dispatched to Poland and their letters and calls to the ministry, Dr. Al- Sarmi explained that the Ministry has sent an official delegation to closely examine those problems and to find solutions for them. The delegation managed to transfer the students to another university in the capital Warsaw, adding that the Ministry will also hold a meeting with Omani students studying in the Republic of Poland and their parents in the ministry headquarters on January 25th to discuss all matters pending in this aspect.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of higher Education sad that the ministry has no objection if the students prefer leaving Poland and joining a private university or College in the Sultanate and in the same field of specialization. The Committee made a number of observations and solutions that will enhance external scholarships and solve many problems, which impede its development.

Second Pakistani University opens in UAE

Abasyn University RAS AL KHAIMAH, (UAE): One more Pakistani University has started its operations in Ras Al Khaimah with a mission to provide good quality affordable education for Pakistani families living in UAE.
