Oman set ready for higher education show

Muscat: The leading higher education expo in Oman, GHEDEX 2012 (Gulf higher education exhibition), will be a real global platform this time as many iconic centres of higher education all over the world is ready to make a try here. The 13th edition of GHEDEX education tradeshow will kick start from April 23 at the OITC (Oman International Trade & Exhibition) near International Airport, Muscat. 

Several universities and colleges from countries like the UK, the US, Australia, UAE and others have already confirmed their participation at GHEDEX 2012.Kings College, London, AMIDEAST, New Castle University, UK, University College London, have already confirmed their participation. Australia's largest and most-multi-cultural university, Curtin University, is participating for the first time and will be the silver sponsor of the GHEDEX 2012. Waljat College of Applied Sciences, Oman is the Golden Sponsor of GHEDEX 2012.

GHEDEX 2012 will provide incredible platform for Universities, colleges, educational centres and Edu Tech companies to showcase their programs and products. Oman is a destination with a vibrant young community who are looking across borders to get wired into globally reputed higher education opportunities. So it will be a good demand-supply scenario in the world of higher education here. Moreover, Many education technology companies  who hell-bent on changing the way of learning also will get a better marketplace at GHEDEX to hard sell their new learning ideas.

Three -day long GHEDEX education show will be backed by Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and Ministry of Manpower (MoM). GHEDEX-Muscat 2012 can be the best practices for capturing sales leads from Office & School Supplies trade shows. GHEDEX is the first approved International & Local Higher Education Exhibition by UFI, the global association of exhibition industry in Arabia. 

Muktar Mirza, project manager, noted that universities from Oman and abroad are keen on continuing their participation in Ghedex due to the vast audience it generates. "The fact that we received confirmed support from MoHE, MoM, British Council and Amideast adds immense significance to it," Mirza added. 


As part of its initiative to bridging the gap, British Council has announced its support for Oman's premier higher education expo, GHEDEX 2012. “ Our association with the British Council and our supporting bodies enable us to provide students and those seeking education opportunities abroad, greater exposure to a vast variety of programmes and institutions. The demand for high quality education standards has also encouraged local universities and colleges to have strong affiliations with international institutions," said Mr. Muktar Mirza.


Renowned Oman-based colleges viz. Caledonian college, Majan College and Universities like Sohar and Dhofar Universities are the lead sponsors of the GHEDEX. Other lead sponsors are Education Malaysia, Education Ireland and Higher College of Technology

Second Pakistani University opens in UAE

Abasyn University RAS AL KHAIMAH, (UAE): One more Pakistani University has started its operations in Ras Al Khaimah with a mission to provide good quality affordable education for Pakistani families living in UAE. Name as “Abasyn University ”, the new educational platform will offer degree courses to the 800 to 1,000 pupils who comes out of Pakistani high schools in the UAE every year. Previously Szabist University in Dubai was the only Pakistani university in the emirates. Abasyn’s Ras Al Khaimah centre is its overseas branch campus. As a famed brand in Pakistan, the Abasyn University has campuses in Peshawar and Islamabad. Abasyn University is considered to be more affordable as it charges only Dh1,200 a month. This makes it more affordable than Szabist which charges Dh1,900, and Abasyn is significantly cheaper than other institutions. On average, university fees in the UAE start at about Dh25,000 a year. However, for anything science or engineering based, costs can rise
