Muscat: Dr. Issa Sabeel Al Bulushi, CEO, Gulf College, has chosen to receive the prestigious Education Leadership Award of the World Education Congress (WEC). This is first time this International award goes to Oman and Dr. Issa gets a special mark in Oman history. The University of Portsmouth has signed a contract to train military engineers in Oman. The government-funded college expects to enrol 1,000 students in September, and up to 4,200 students will be trained in total, the university said. Earlier In April, the Portsmouth university authorities announced that it had won a “prestigious contract” to help develop four military engineering degrees for Oman’s Military Technological College. But a campaign group from UK has criticized the move from the Portsmouth University. A UK-based organization, Campaign Against Arms Trade, warned that the deal would enable “internal repression”. Engineers in action More UAE nationals need to be encouraged into engineering and technology careers, as there are not enough qualified locals to fill the jobs available, say some of the region’s employers. Emerson India, Middle East and Africa Human Resources corporate vice-president William Kofahl said the biggest challenge for the global manufacturing and technology company was finding entry-level engineers and technicians in the region. Emerson, which has about 130,000 employees worldwide across a range of areas including process automation, plant optimisation, telecommunications infrastructure and climate control, has more than 1,000 employees in the Middle East, with the majority based in Dubai. A post-graduate program student of IIM-Indore has received a job offer with a salary package of Rs.34 lakh per annum. The spokesman of the institution was not ready to divulge the details of the student. He does not even disclose the name of the company which recruited the student. The only info right now is that a post-graduate programme student of IIM Indore was offered Rs.34 lakh per annum. A total of 432 students and 142 companies participated in the campus placement programme and the average salary offered was Rs.12.1 lakh per annum.  Most of the jobs have been provided in sales and marketing sectors. A total of 29 percent jobs offered were in these sectors. 

Neha Ramu A 12-year-old Indian girl made an incredible feat by scoring an IQ score of 162, which is more than that of scientist Albert Einstein and physicist Stephen Hawking. Neha Ramu, now studying in London has made ripples all over world. Nobody tested the IQ level of Einstein (during Einstein’s period IQ test does not exist), but it is believed that Einstein has an IQ of 160 only. It is also believed that software billionaire Bill Gates and physicist Stephen Hawking also have an IQ score of 160 (they both also have not participated in Mensa IQ test).  Mensa, a British society for people with high intelligence scores, invited Neha Ramu to test her IQ as she made academic wonders by scoring 740 out of 800 on a section of SAT exam. Kerala once again has proposed a new dream plan on education and here it is for creating a global hub of knowledge which provides world class education. This new dream move is part of the Kerala Perspective plan 2030. Plan is to create framework to address the challenges faced by the education sector and to make the state a global hub of knowledge. The plan report says the state is emerge as a key player to the global knowledge network by 2030. And it is expected that Kerala will achieve a significant share of the global market in education. The perspective plan 2030 was prepared by the Delhi-based National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER). This report was formed for the stating planning board.
