AMIDEAST administers the Fulbright Foreign Student Program


Muscat: AMIDEAST administers the Fulbright Foreign Student Program for the Middle East and North Africa on behalf of the US Department of States Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. This highly prestigious scholarship program is a two-year fellowship, designed to give graduates of four-year Bachelors degree or Masters degree programs the opportunity to pursue a graduate degree at a US university.

AMIDEAST is a leading American non-profit organization engaged in international education, training and development activities in the Middle East and North Africa. Founded in 1951, AMIDEAST in its early years focused on promoting U.S. study to students in the MENA region and managing U.S. scholarships and exchanges such as the flagship Fulbright Foreign Student Program. While these important programs continue apace, our work has expanded significantly.

Today AMIDEAST programs and services touch the lives of half a million individuals a year – improving educational opportunities and quality, strengthening local institutions, and developing language and professional skills critical for success in the global economy.

Fulbright Foreign Student Program was established by the US Congress in 1946. It was founded to foster mutual understanding among nations through educational and cultural exchange. AMIDEAST administers the Fulbright Foreign Student Program for the Middle East and North Africa on behalf of the US Department of States Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. This highly prestigious scholarship program is a two-year fellowship, designed to give graduates of four-year Bachelors degree or Masters degree programs the opportunity to pursue a graduate degree at a US university.

Applicant Requirements
A competitive applicant will have an excellent academic record, strong English language skills, an outstanding character, and the commitment to return to Oman upon completion of the program.


Also an applicant:

· Must be an Omani citizen residing in Oman

· Cannot be a U.S. passport holder or legal permanent resident (Green Card holder)

· Must have at least two years of work experience

· Must have a bachelor’s degree recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education

· Must have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent

· Achieve a minimum score of 79-80 on the internet-based TOEFL

· Achieve a minimum score of 500 on the GMAT for business related majors, or 145-153 minimum on the GRE for all other majors

· Cannot apply for programs in clinical nursing, medicine, dentistry, law or veterinary medicine
Important Dates

· February 27th, 2013 - Applications Open

· March 6th - May 31st, 2013- Applicant Information Sessions at AMIDEAST, every Wednesday at 4:00pm until application deadline

· June 1st, 2013 - Application deadline!

· June 16-18, 2013 - Interviews for short-listed candidates only

· September 1st, 2013 - Applicants notified of status (nominee or not selected)

Second Pakistani University opens in UAE

Abasyn University RAS AL KHAIMAH, (UAE): One more Pakistani University has started its operations in Ras Al Khaimah with a mission to provide good quality affordable education for Pakistani families living in UAE. Name as “Abasyn University ”, the new educational platform will offer degree courses to the 800 to 1,000 pupils who comes out of Pakistani high schools in the UAE every year. Previously Szabist University in Dubai was the only Pakistani university in the emirates. Abasyn’s Ras Al Khaimah centre is its overseas branch campus.
