CCE to Collaborate with Schneider Electric Company

Muscat: Caledonian College of Engineering in Oman (CCE) has entered into a partnership with Schneider Electric Company by signing an agreement for cooperation between the two institutions. This was formally carried out at a ceremony on the 29th January, 2014 at the college’s Al Hail campus, Seeb in Muscat. Schneider Electric, the headquarters of which is in France, is a global specialist in energy management and maintains a leading position in power and control worldwide.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions covers student placement, student internship and training and development opportunities in the fields of electric engineering and allied fields. Provision is also made for CCE graduate students to pursue internship and research projects at Schneider. Through this co-operation, CCE and Schneider Electric Company will work together in covering, developing and delivering custom-made training courses, together with skill development activities, serving the electrical engineering industry in the region. They will also co-operate in organising seminars and conferences.

The MoU signing ceremony took place at CCE’s Al Hail Campus and was attended by Dr Ahmed Al Hassan Balushi, Acting Dean of CCE and Mr Alberto Martinez Sanguino, HR VP, Schneider Electric Company, accompanied by Mr Sridhar Sharma, Country Sales Director and Mr Amjad Al Zadjali, HR/Admin Officer. The Schneider delegates were received by the Executives of CCE.

Dr Ahmed Al-Balushi, Acting Dean of CCE, pointed out that the partnership with Schneider provides an opportunity for human resource development through student placement and training in the field of electrical engineering, electricity distribution, energy management and automation management. Commenting on the fact that Oman is investing heavily in power generation, distribution and utilities and there is a need for developing competent professionals working in this area in the near future, Dr Ahmed said: “Through cooperation with one of the finest global organisations offering skill development skill in this area, we look forward to strengthening the college’s ‘Caledonian Unit for Training and Professional Development Division’.

During the MoU signing, Mr Alberto Martinez Sanguino, Head of HR for Schneider Electric Gulf Countries & Pakistan, stated that this MoU will go a long way in their efforts to attract young and talented Omani engineers to build a sustainable future for their operations in Oman. 


 Prof K.P. Ramachandaran, Associate Dean at CCE, stated that the college, as a fast-growing higher educational institution in the region, is promoting collaboration with leading multinationals to enhance the association between industry and academia and thereby to help students improve technical education as well as sharing the latest technical knowledge in electrical engineering within the industry. He went on to say: “Electrical engineering is an inevitable part of any industrial and infrastructural development sectors. In supporting on-going development with various projects in Oman and the region, it is necessary to promote such industry-academia initiatives to develop human capital to contribute to the existing and future growth of industry. This is achieved through developing human resources in line with international standards.” He concluded by stating that CCE’s newly established cooperation with Schneider, a renowned multinational in electricity distribution, automation management and production installation for energy management, would benefit Caledonian College and the people of Oman in gearing up for future challenges in developing the talent pool in this highly specialised area.

Second Pakistani University opens in UAE

Abasyn University RAS AL KHAIMAH, (UAE): One more Pakistani University has started its operations in Ras Al Khaimah with a mission to provide good quality affordable education for Pakistani families living in UAE.
