UAE: Hot Spot for Higher Studies

Dubai Knowledge Village
Dubai: In a recent survey conducted by Dubai International Academic City and Deloitte, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranked the fourth most attractive education destination in the world for students looking to pursue their studies abroad. This was achieved by beating China, Singapore and Australia. The UAE was found to be the favourite study destination for many.

A set of companies across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and 2,400 students were surveyed. Stating that the UAE is “recognised for its strength in science, finance, economics and management,” about 60% of the corporate entities interviewed stated that Dubai’s position as a centre of higher education was ‘good’ or ‘excellent.’

Opening up opportunities for universities in the UAE to develop stronger linkages with a vast student pool that needs high-quality education, Dubai, as a centre of education, appears to be the strongest in countries such as India.

Student enrolment up

According to a new report released by Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the student enrolment in higher education institutions in Dubai grew by 11% in 2012. Enrolment of students in the emirate’s higher education centres rose by 31% in the last five years.

Emmanuel Durou, consulting director at Deloitte Middle East, said recently: “Our sectorial analysis has shown that, while the UAE has built a strong perception as an educational hub in sectors such as tourism and hospitality, there remain some important workforce supply and demand gaps in a number of industries, including energy and healthcare.”

A report by Parthenon in 2011 pointed out that enrolment in private universities in the UAE was focused on making the student employable and so was weighted towards Management, Engineering, Law, Health Sciences, and Education. It also found that an annual growth of 18% in enrolment was witnessed in ‘Western’ higher education institutions in the UAE such as Middlesex, Canadian University of Dubai, and American University in the Emirates.

Offering a favourable environment for experiential learning, creative thinking and independent action, this technologically advanced city gives continuous focus on innovation. Providing opportunity to widen cultural horizons through direct interaction with over 160 nationalities, Architecture, Business Administration, Design, Tourism, Engineering, and International Relations are just a few of the subjects you can study in Dubai.

Abu Dhabi

Universities in Abu Dhabi such as Zayed University and the United Arab Emirates University contribute to making Abu Dhabi a leading education hub for the Gulf region, and, in many cases, the wider world. Today, leading universities offer programmes or have set up university branch campuses in Abu Dhabi, including INSEAD, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University, and Paris-Sorbonne.
