Muscat: Takatuf Oman announced 24 International scholarships for 2013. These 24 students were selected from the 60 who successfully completed the Takatuf Scholars Summer Residential Programme. Selected students will be sent to join leading international educational institutions for the 2014-15 academic year. Takatuf Oman is the human capital solutions provider for Oman Oil Company (OOC) and its group of companies. Out of the total 24, ten students received the Takatuf International Scholarship funded by OOC, nine the Takatuf Oman Oil Refineries & Petroleum Industries Company (ORPIC) Scholarship and five the Takatuf Oman Trading International (OTI) Scholarship. Abasyn University RAS AL KHAIMAH, (UAE): One more Pakistani University has started its operations in Ras Al Khaimah with a mission to provide good quality affordable education for Pakistani families living in UAE. Name as “Abasyn University ”, the new educational platform will offer degree courses to the 800 to 1,000 pupils who comes out of Pakistani high schools in the UAE every year. Previously Szabist University in Dubai was the only Pakistani university in the emirates. Abasyn’s Ras Al Khaimah centre is its overseas branch campus. Muscat: New generation Omani youths have more affinity to start their own business than joining as a employee in a company. This fact was revealed in a recently published survey which was done by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The survey conducted “NCSI” named “Omani Youth Orientation” points out that around 42% of Omani job seekers would like to start their own business, while only 4.5 preferred private sector jobs. NCSI conducted the survey last month in order to better understand Omani youth orientation in the job market. While 42 per cent of job seekers were willing to start their own businesses, this figure dropped to 28 per cent among higher education students. The results also showed that Omani youth would rather not work in the private sector. Only 4.5 per cent of the total number of job seekers was willing to do so, as compared to 32 per cent of higher education students. Smriti Irani, HRD Minister New Delhi, (India): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley revealed his maiden budget stating that Rs. 500 crore each will be allocated to set up five new IITs and IIMs. Jammu, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala will be receiving IIT colleges while the IIMs will be set up in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, Odisha and Maharashtra. AUS signs IELTS agreement with the British Council  Ali Shuhaimy (right) and Nick Godfrey Sharjah, (UAE): American University of Sharjah (AUS) has recently signed an agreement with the British Council making the university an official IELTS test venue in Sharjah. Around 1,000-2,000 test takers are expected to register for IELTS test services during the first year. The agreement was signed by Ali Shuhaimy, AUS Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management, and Nick Godfrey, Regional Examinations Manager for the British Council, Middle East South.
