Abu Dhabi: The International Centre for Sport Studies (CIES) has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and Paris Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (PSUAD) to launch a programme in sports management. The first edition of the programme will start in September at Sorbonne University. The programme will allow students from the UAE and other GCC countries to acquire fundamental tools in the field of sport management and offer them opportunity to attend conference given by international experts. “Students, who will join the programme, will benefit from top-level education and training in sport management. The programme will also feature a number of guests to share their experience in an international learning environment,” Eric Fouache, vice chancellor of PSUAD, said. Abu Dhabi: It was Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s quote -“A country’s greatest investment lies in building generations of educated and knowledgeable youth”-that Sultan Abdo Al Ameri, a 24-year-old Emirati graduate, used as motivation during his three-year academic journey in the US. “I achieved 97.9 per cent in grade 12 at Ghantoot School in Bani Yas. I was selected to receive a Khalifa Bin Zayed Scholarship and continue my undergraduate studies at Ohio University in electrical and computer engineering,” Al Ameri, a government employee, told Gulf News. Al Ameri, who faced some difficulties in adapting to the new culture and environment abroad, said, “I have worked hard to complete my undergraduate studies in less than four years. Professors were very helpful, respectful and they offered every possible support. Students-in-Iraq Baghdad: Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education has announced the establishment of 19 new colleges and 36 departments within its state and provincial universities. According to the deputy minister of higher education, Salam Hassan, the new colleges and departments will be in Baghdad, al-Mustansiriyah and Al-Nahrain Universities, as well as in universities in Mosul, Basra, Babil, Wasit, Muthanna, Dhi Qar, Tikrit, Kufa, Kirkuk, Al-Qadissiya, Maysan, Al-Qassim and Samarra. With the addition of these colleges and departments, the ministry plans to increase scientific specializations within the higher education sector and improve the country’s higher education to be on par with modern higher education in developed countries.
