American University in Dubai to host Harvard Project

Students-of-American University-in-Dubai Dubai: For the first time in the Middle East, the American University in Dubai (AUD) will host the prestigious Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) conference. Running from August 22 to 26, this year’s theme is “Extending Horizons: Charting Asia’s Flourishing Future”. The opening ceremony takes place today (Thursday) at the Meydan IMAX Theatre where prominent guest speakers will share their visions and expertise. HPAIR is one of the largest student-run conferences in the world, attracting more than 400 university students from all over the globe. NYU Abu Dhabi welcomes 19 students

NYU, Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi: Some 19 high-achieving undergraduate students have been welcomed by New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD)into its sixth class of an intensive enrichment programme for the new academic year 2013-2014. The Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Scholars Programme (SMSP) offers selected students from the UAE’s federal universities — UAE University, Higher Colleges of Technology and Zayed University a character-building life experience. During the eight-month intensive programme, students will learn critical thinking, writing, public speaking and leadership skills in addition to gaining cross-cultural experiences in a 10-day trip to New York and Washington, DC. “The scholars who have graduated from this programme continue to demonstrate their ambition, confidence, and ability,” said Shaikha Mariam Bint Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, co-chair of the programme’s committee. HEAC: Seats-approval stage to end today

Muscat: Today is the last day for the students registered with the Higher Education Admission Centre (HEAC) at the Ministry of Higher Education to approve the seats offered for them. The approval stage has started on 5 August, 2013, one day after HEAC announced the first sorting out of results for the academic year 2013/2014. Yahya bin Salam al-Manthri, Acting Director General of HEAC at the Ministry of Higher Education said that the number of students who approved the seats until Tuesday reached 24,125 students, out of 26,069 students. Al-Manthri added that HEAC has sent text messages to students who have not approved the seats so far, asking them to quickly do that otherwise; they would be considered as withdrawn from study. It is worth mentioning that the admission procedures at higher education institutions will continue until August 29th, 2013.

Oman scholarship for a Canadian student

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is offering one undergraduate university scholarship for a Canadian student in academic year 2013-2014. Selection is based on the academic performance of students. The scholarship funding covers airfare, allowances for residence, living expenses and transportation and free medical treatment in government hospitals.
