IFMR opens in Sri City today

Tada, Andhra Pradesh (India): The Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR) Chennai opens its new campus at Sri City, which lies near Tamil Nadu-Andhra border.

Inauguration of the new campus is clubbed with the convocation function of the last batch at its Sricity campus on Friday 9th May, 2014. Dr. Morton Schapiro, President, Northwestern University, Illinois, USA will be the chief guest of the function. Ms. Chanda Kochhar, MD & CEO ICICI Bank Ltd will provide the keynote address.

What is IFMR?
The Institute for Financial Management and Research is a not-for-profit research based academic institution with a history of 43 years of Training and Research. It has run programs in the past in collaboration with British Open University and Michigan Business School.

IFMR has a unique combination made up of:

• A Business School offering a 2 year full-time 'Postgraduate Diploma in Management' program recognized by AICTE and, recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to an MBA

• A Research School offering Ph.D. in association with Madras University

• Executive Development Programs for Corporate, Banking & Financial services, Government and Development Sectors

• Research Centers in micro-finance, small enterprises finance and development finance

It is recognized as an Institution of National Importance by the Ministry of Finance and, as a research organization by the Department of Science and Technology.

The Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR) Chennai, established in 1970 has been ranked "23rd Best B School in India" and "9th Best B School in the Area of Finance." IFMR at Sri City is spread over 40 acres adjoining other proposed prestigious educational institutions inside Sri City.

It will have state of the art facilities with a library which is a repository for all World Bank, GATT and UN publications. It provides access to info-rich databases like EBSCO, JSTOR, Science Direct and is home to 170 national journals and 65 international journals. The new campus will also have a gym and a big ground for sports activities, Wi-Fi campus with high bandwidth broadband connectivity.

A recently opened, unique facility is a world class trading floor, set up in collaboration with NCDEX Institute of Commodity Markets and Research (NICR). Lecture halls in IFMR are air-conditioned and equipped with audio-visual aids and internet connectivity. Genuine software packages like Reuters, Financial Trading System (FTS), Barra on Campus (containing Aegis and Cosmos), Prowess, Capitalline, eViews, Statistica, Gauss Optimization software, MATLAB simulation package and project management software are available for use by students.

PGDM at IFMR

The PGDM program at IFMR is a rigorous course that offers a unique blend of practical and theoretical knowledge. The specializations offered in the second year are: Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, IT & Operations, Financial Engineering, Development Finance and Strategy. The curriculum is unmatched in depth and breadth. It gives you a holistic view on general management practices so essential for success across fields and functions. You then have the freedom to pursue a specialization of your calling.

The various courses are designed to sharpen your analytical skills and help you find ways to break through the clutter with inventive, strategic solutions. Learning teams, case studies, lectures, games, syndicates, web-based learning, real-life simulations and summer projects effectively integrate classroom learning with real-world exposure. PGDM program includes six terms of classroom sessions and one term of industry internship and project.

Admissions: The PGDM program at IFMR have a minimum requisite of being a graduate in any discipline with consistent academic record. The scores of competitive Management exams such as CAT 2013 / XAT 2014 / GMAT & GRE (Taken in the last five years) and CMAT are taken into consideration to filter potential candidates. The admission procedure then includes further rounds of essay writing followed by interviews. This is conducted at the Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai. 


Sri City
Sri City, India's new hub of education

Sri City is a Planned Integrated Business City (Township) located 55 km North of Chennai on NH 5 along the border of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Tamil Nadu (TN) States of India. Much of Sri City area is in Chittoor District and a smaller area along the NH5 is in Nellore District of AP, adjacent to Tiruvallur District of Tamil Nadu.

The Satish Dhawan Space Centre (aka SHAR), India’s Satellite/Rocket launching centre is located at Sriharikota, on the eastern side of the Pulicat Lake which separates Sri City and the Satellite launching station.

Sri City focuses on building a knowledge society which will form the basis for innovation and new products and services. Over 1,000 acres have been allocated for the development of this zone which will attract a number of schools, universities, training centers, and R&D centers. These institutions will cater not only to the residents and companies within Sri City, but to the entire region, and indeed to the rest of India.

1. Chinmaya Vidyalaya


Chinmaya Vidyalaya School run under the auspices of the Central Chinmaya Mission Trust is currently operational at Sri City. The building and facilities currently span across more than 24,000 sq.ft. and will be expanded further. The study pattern is designed to offer a value-based education which provides for integrated development of the physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual aspects of the personality, enriched by the knowledge of Indian Culture, a feeling of patriotism and a Universal outlook.

2.CSBE

Chennai School of Business Excellence (CSBE) has already opened its new campus in Sri City Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Satyavedu constituency of Chittoor district.

Three-acre campus

Spread over a three-acre campus, the college offers a two-year AICTE-approved PGDM course with dual specialisation in a vertical (functional) and a horizontal (industry) specialisation. The vertical course includes marketing, finance and HR, while the horizontal is a pick from among retail, telecom, banking & finance, international business and manufacturing.

The two-year course comes with functional and industry specialization. The course costs Rs. 3.25 lakh per year and will be offered from this academic year. Vertical (functional) course includes marketing, finance and HR. Horizontal (industry) course covers retail, telecom, banking & finance, international business and manufacturing.

3.IIIT

Approved by the ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), the premier engineering institute in India, is set up at Sri City. The IIIT campus at Sri City will be spread over 50-100 acres.

B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)

In addition to the above Majors, a number of Minors in the areas of Consumer Electronics, Automotive Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Sustainable Energy, and Aerospace will be offered.

Second Pakistani University opens in UAE

Abasyn University RAS AL KHAIMAH, (UAE): One more Pakistani University has started its operations in Ras Al Khaimah with a mission to provide good quality affordable education for Pakistani families living in UAE.
