GU TECH OFFERS MSc COURSES

The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) will offer two different pilot classes in integrated urban planning and petroleum geoscience in February-March.
During both pilot classes, senior professors from RWTH Aachen University with international expertise in their fields will give a brief introduction of GUtech’s part-time MSc programmes that will start in the winter semester 2011/2012.
Both pilot courses will be held in English at the GUtech Airport Campus in Azaiba, located next to the Sultan Qaboos highway.“GUtech offers MSc courses that are designed for professionals who would like to upgrade their career potential with an internationally recognised and industry relevant programme.
Our MSc courses were designed by professors from RWTH Aachen University. Both pilot classes will be free of charge,“ said Professor Dr Burkhard Rauhut, rector, GUtech. GUtech‘s MSc programmes are strongly related to real-life challenges and will be taught as part-time programmes in block courses, evening classes and some days of field training at the weekends.
The pilot course in petroleum geoscience will be held on February 26 (9am- 4.45pm)  and on February 27 (9.30am-3pm) by Professor Dr Peter Kukla, head of the Institute of Geology at RWTH Aachen University and Professor Dr Janos L Urai, inaugural dean of the Department of Applied Geosciences and Professor for Geodynamics at RWTH Aachen University.
The pilot course in integrated urban planning will be taught by Professor Dr Gerhard Curdes, Faculty of Architecture, RWTH Aachen University and by Professor Dr Sonja Nebel, professor for Architectural Design at GUtech on February 28 (9am-4.45pm) and on March 1 from 9.30am-3pm.
GUtech’s Master of Science programme in petroleum geoscience focuses on areas which are of key importance to the region's present and future: exploration and production of oil and gas, as well as the supply and sales of energy.
"Participants of the workshop will get a good overview of the MSc programme but also learn practical lessons for the day-to- day work of hydrocarbon professions. We will talk about pressures and seals in the subsurface, about the basic physics and processes but also cover real-life examples from the Middle East," said Professor Dr Peter Kukla.

Why You Should Not Opt For IIT Bombay

This article is written by IITians in the blog Actors Imran and Anushka during a cultural program at IIT Bombay If asked to compare IIT Bombay to IIT Delhi, most students say that the difference is negligible. Both are in metropolitan cities with good options for hostels, PG accommodations, food and entertainment. Cultural activities are equally good as is the faculty and study methodology. Even placements at the two IITS are amongst the best in the country. Yet figures indicate that the top JEE rank holders prefer Computer Science Engineering at IIT Mumbai rather than IIT Delhi. But, we are here to tell you when and why you can avoid IIT Mumbai. Mumbai IIT was earlier placed in the suburbs, away from the crowds, giving IITians the space and peace to pursue their career goals. Today the area in Powai is surrounded by high rise building, malls and traffic snarls, bringing with it all the clatter and patter of a metropolitan hub. Just like the population and popular

Story of a B-Tech engineer’s love for music

Passion is one where everybody wants to plunge in. You may be forced to pursue alien paths in life. But your passion may be just opposite to that. Why I write this now is when I got a letter from a parent who is suffering from his son’s adamant approach to pursue a programme in music. As a parent he is not against music. But the thing is that, his son is an engineer. He had done his B-Tech from a premier tech-college of India- NIT. Now the son is working as an electrical engineer in a good firm in Bahrain. He draws around Rs.1 lakh per month. This is a good salary for a student who just now starts his career. But now the son wants to pursue his private passion- Music. He is an ardent music lover. His first few months salary was spent for setting up a studio at home. He bought few good expensive instruments and music equipmen
