What did you do before you came to Newcastle?

I was working for ministry of tourism in Oman in the IT department as e-tourism head section.

Why did you choose Newcastle University?

Newcastle University is ranked among the top 30 good universities in the UK according to the TIMES GOOD UNIVERSITY GUIDE. Additionally, I was captured by the prompt reply and smooth application process.

What did you like the most about your degree?

I found the environment stimulating and the tutors were very supportive.

Were the knowledge and skills gained useful when looking for a job?

Although I already have a job, I was facing the problem of the lack of the business perspective being with IT background only. Thus, the knowledge and skills gained helped me to bridge this gap as the modules delivered covered both perspectives. Additionally, other skills were gained such as team working, time management, and communication skills.

What do you do now? How's that relevant to your EBIS degree?

Now I am perusing my PhD at Newcastle University, my research focuses on electronic tourism in Oman. The knowledge gained from the EBIS degree led me to wonder about the potential that e-business will have on the Tourism sector on my country. Stemmed from this I decide to peruse my PhD in this area.

Would you recommend Newcastle (the city) to your friends?

Newcastle for me was the best choice as it is a lovely city and not to mention that it is a cheaper and safer place compared to other cities in the UK. I would definitely recommend Newcastle to my friends.

Why I write this now is when I got a letter from a parent who is suffering from his son’s adamant approach to pursue a programme in music. As a parent he is not against music. But the thing is that, his son is an engineer. He had done his B-Tech from a premier tech-college of India- NIT. Now the son is working as an electrical engineer in a good firm in Bahrain. He draws around Rs.1 lakh per month. This is a good salary for a student who just now starts his career. But now the son wants to pursue his private passion- Music. He is an ardent music lover. His first few months salary was spent for setting up a studio at home. He bought few good expensive instruments and music equipmen
